Broodmare gem Benelise to create history

Outstanding matron Benelise, bred and owned by Benstud Standardbreds, is on the cusp of history following the win of her son Wardan Express in a heat of the Bathurst Gold Chalice on Monday (March 20).

Should the Art Major colt win the Group 2 $52,000 Gold Chalice Final on Saturday it will give Benelise an unprecedented third Group winner at the annual Gold Crown carnival.

Two of her progeny, Yrubla (2007) and Soho Valencia (2011), are previous winners of the Group 1 Bathurst Gold Crown.

While Niki No No, a half-sister to Yrubla, Soho Valencia and Wardan Express, twice tasted Group 1 glory winning the Vicbred 2YO Final in 2014 and the Victoria Oaks in 2015. She is carrying a positive test to the USA 2YO and 3YO of the year Captaintreacherous.

Yet another of Benelise’s offspring, Majordan, is proving one of the ‘finds’ of the season having won at his last four appearances.

All told, Benelise has left the winners of 72 races and $937,384 in stakes.
